Poolsharks Week 2

Hi Poolsharks -

Welcome to Week #2!

5 Things:

1) emphasis & expectation: kindness, proactive inclusiveness, body positivity

2) Goals for the week - technique, getting to know kids

3) 15 meter lake lanes vs 25 meter racing lanes

4) Time Trials - Tues May 24th, 4 - 7 pm

5) Meet Schedule - LINK to our team website with all the info

In Detail:

1) On Day 1 & Day 2 this past week, we emphasized 2 things at the beginning of each group’s practice, and we will continue doing this throughout the season, especially during the first two weeks.

*kindness - for example, say hello and be welcoming to the people in your lane & training group - we count on our swimmers being proactively inclusive as we strive for everyone to know they are valued important members

*body positivity - zero comments about anyone’s body, or their suit/equipment - everyone wears what they are most comfortable in

2) Goals for this week - coaches will continue getting to know the kids in their group while also identifying any swimmers that need to be shifted up or down based on their levels. We will focus daily on building technique, for all age groups and levels. Good technique leads to efficient fast swimming and also keeps shoulders and joints as healthy as possible.

3) 15 meter Lake Lanes vs 25 meter racing lanes: at this time, groups will shift courses every other day. The shorter lanes allow for even more focus on technique & drill work while the 25 meter lanes can work on building up swimmers endurance. Either distance will help all levels of swimmers with their growth.

4) Tuesday May 24th (4 pm - 7 pm) - Time Trials & Pretend Meet @ Venetian We'll let everyone know next week how to DECLARE yes/no for this meet (deadline to declare is typically the thursday before the meet, to allow us time to write the lineups and get as organized as possible). A few goals of this meet include: #1) giving parent volunteers a chance to practice different roles (timer, finish judge, etc). #2) giving swimmers a chance to race (all kids that are ready will do the 25 or 50 free, along with possibly one more individual event). We may do relays although this is the most hectic part of a meet typically. #3) giving swimmers & coaches a chance to get new times in the system so we can have the most accurate meet lineup heading into our first meet.

Please continue to reach out with questions/concerns and we look forward to Week 2!

Have Fun, Race Hard, Do Your Best, Go Poolsharks!
