Poolsharks - Week 9
Hi Poolsharks -
Welcome to Week 9 and our last week of the 2023 season.
As we plan for our Thursday 'end of season celebration,' we are hoping to know general attendance as we plan for relays etc. Please declare Yes/No HERE to help us plan.
Tomorrow, Monday June 26th, will be our last dual meet of the season, as we host the Lake Claire Wahoos @ 5:30 for 80’s Spirit Night. All swimmers should arrive at 4 pm like usual (normal timeline for our home meets). It will also be our first annual 'alum' night and a few of our most recently graduated Poolsharks will be volunteering in roles such as timers/number pole etc. We hope to build upon alum night for the future as we welcome home our Poolsharks.
Speaking of the 80's - here is my own swim team from the 80's, the Ithaca YMCA Cayuga Lakers. I look a little mopey for some unmemorable reason. On a side note, if anyone is familiar with the musician Kishi Bashi (here is a song of his I enjoy - the music video is somewhat unique), he kneeling is 2 from my left.
Volunteer for tomorrow night - we have about 50 volunteer positions still open HERE - thank you to all of our families for volunteering throughout our season - you have been awesome!
Schedule for this week:
Monday: Dual Meet HOME vs Winding Vista - Senior Night & Spirit theme 80’s night - come dressed to impress! Heat Sheets and Handwriters will be posted by this evening.
Tuesday: donut/awards and last swim practice day - we will follow the donut day schedule. 6U/8U @ 8:45, 9-12 @ 9:30, 13-18 @ 10:15.
Wednesday: Divisionals @ Georgia Tech - there is NO Poolshark practice this day as all coaches will be at Divisionals. We are excited to bring 111 Poolsharks to the championship meet!
Thursday: LAST DAY of Season - 9 - 11 AM - we will have our End of Season Celebration including handing out our 3-6-9 seasons of commitment awards, games, fun relays & recognize 6 Poolsharks of the Year. We will also have the burrito guys out on Thursday for families to purchase breakfast burritos one last time this season.
Commitment awards - please check our list HERE to see if your swimmers is receiving a 3 seasons (hat), 6 seasons (towel) or 9 seasons (sweatshirt) award. We have tried to be as accurate as possible by checking years of registration (do not include 2020 but yes include Starfish years) and previously received bag/hat, towel, hoodie/parka, but it is definitely possible we have made a few errors in missing a swimmer. A big reason we do these awards is to demonstrate appreciation and acknowledgement for the commitment to be on summer league swimming year after year, for both the parents & families and the swimmers. It was special to listen to the Twin Lakes senior celebration this past week - each of those graduating seniors had been a Thunderbolt for 10+ years, and even though most of them were not year round swimmers and instead focused on other sports/activities, they still came back to represent, have fun, and swim for their summer league team each year. This is what we hope to continue building at Venetian for our Poolshark swimmers and families!
End of Season Pictures Slideshow - Coach Jayla is working to put this together for the team - please take a moment to add photos to this google photo album by Tuesday night please.
Have Fun, Race Hard, Do Your Best, Go Poolsharks!
