Poolsharks - Week 7 & Divisionals & Top 11's & Seniors
Here we are in Week 7 of Poolshark season!
1) Celebrations - we will celebrate our 10 graduating seniors next week, June 18th when we host Twin Lakes. Owen, CJ, Bridget, Knox, Jayla, Liam, Jake, Greta, Liv and Aiden. The celebration will take place during the middle of the meet.
2) Timeline for our meet tomorrow @ Winding Vista: swimmers arrive at 4:15 pm, our warmups will be at 5 pm - 5:25 pm, meet begins at 5:30, ends at 9:30 (hopefully!).
3) Heat Sheets HERE, Handwriters HERE - there are always a few kids that have last minute changes due to sickness etc, the Swimtopia app will be the most up to date, for parents to keep track of their swimmers events.
4) ASA Divisionals - this is our Championship meet (lots of info HERE)
When: Wednesday June 26th @ 9:00 am - 1 pm (warmups are TBD assigned and will begin as early as 8 am). We will NOT have swim practice this day.
Where: Georgia Tech Natatorium
Cost: families pay $30 per swimmer plus a parking pass that you should definitely buy ahead of time HERE. The league charges us $48 per swimmer and Venetian will pay $18 for each swimmer towards the $48 cost.
Who Participates: This meet is recommended for our swimmers ages 5-18 that would like to experience a championship meet, and can legally swim their race (they DQ out the wazoo at this meet). If you are not sure if this meet is a good fit for your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to me and we can discuss. Our goal is to have at least 8 kids per age group attend this meet so we can have 2 relays per age group. Parents will choose the 2 individual events their child swims (not coaches) when they declare online and indicate those races in the 'notes' section. We will try to get everyone in at least 1 relay if we have the numbers to support that.
5) Poolshark Top 11 -
Most Improved HERE & High Point Scoring HERE & Top Times by Event/Age Group HERE.
Now that we have 3 meets under our belts (1 time trial & 2 dual meets), we want to take a moment to recognize our swimmers in these 3 categories that are *improving the most, *earning Heat 1 individual places to score 1st (5 points), 2nd (3 points) or 3rd (1 point) at dual meets, and earning *top times within each age group (most age groups have ~ 20 to 30 swimmers). Each category is important and valued, reflecting the dedication, hard work and focus of our swimmers and their families.
Note: please make the best decision for your child, regarding sharing the databases with them, especially the Top Times chart. I am sharing these charts as some kids are very motivated to earn a spot in the A relays for their age groups, and just on the edge of earning a top 4 time. Our 'A' relays are 99% based on times which makes swim coaches jobs much more straightforward than soccer/basketball/baseball coaches when deciding our 'starters,' as our decisions are quantitative. The rare exception is if a swimmer has been sick, injured, not training, etc and are not up to speed for their race at the time. 'A' relays do shift throughout the season, based on who is attending the meet, and as kids improve at varying rates.
6) Planning for Week 9 (our last week of the season):
Monday June 26 - regular AM practice
Monday June 26 - last dual meet, hosting Lake Claire & 80’s Spirit night
Tuesday June 27 - regular AM practice, donut / awards day, Burrito Tuesday
Wednesday June 28 - no swim practice, ASA Divisional swimmers will compete @ Ga Tech in the AM
Thursday June 29 - end of season celebration 9 - 11 am
Have Fun, Race Hard, Do Your Best, Go Poolsharks!
