Poolsharks - Week 5
hi Poolsharks -
Welcome to Week 5!
HERE is our attendance - please check your child's data and as best you remember, check if there are any errors and send me a quick email with what needs to be accurately updated (make sure to include your childs name / age group / coach and the practices that have errors). Goal is to earn 33 points (out of 47) to earn the Black Venetian V cap by the end of the season. Practices = 1 point, meets = 2 points.
If you are thinking about private lessons with coaches (info HERE), this is a great time of season as we are heading into racing season, and one on one lessons are a great way to help your athlete build some of the trickier skills (diving, legal breaststroke, legal fly, side breathing, general efficiency).
Butterfly - a common note we see from parents when they declare their kids for meets is 'no butterfly please.' This hesitancy is true in my own household sometimes with my own kids! So we talked about this at practice earlier this week. We want to shift the mindset and have our kids HUNGRY to swim fly and build their confidence to do hard things. I am okay, if your child is not legal YET on the fly, but still gives it their all. I shared during our wooden deck talk, how butterfly used to be one of my weakest strokes, but I loved IM and i did not want to be behind everyone after the first leg. So every chance I got, when coaches gave us a choice of stroke, I chose butterfly. And it eventually became my best stroke, all the way to my junior year at UGA, where our relay broke the American Record at NCAA's in the 400 medley relay, and the leg I swam on that relay was....BUTTERFLY.
Thats all for now - looking forward to this week and our meet with Echo Ridge on Tuesday (will send heatsheets / handwriters out as we get closer to the meet).
Have Fun, Work Hard, Do your Best & Gooooo Poolsharks!
